Current Development Focusโ€‹

Stability & New Featuresโ€‹

  • Due to our tech stack based on KMP (Kotlin Multiplatform), we've been monitoring some occasional crash issues that are difficult to fully diagnose. We're currently trying multiple approaches across several small updates to fix them and improve overall app experience.
  • We expect to release medium feature versions like 1.7.10, 1.7.20 to introduce some small features and optimizations.

1.7.10 Plannedโ€‹

  1. Manual Task Association for Focus: Allow focus tasks to be manually linked to specific regular tasks for better organization.
  2. Mode-based Focus Rewards: Support setting different rewards for different focus modes (e.g., Pomodoro, countdown, stopwatch).

1.8.0 Plannedโ€‹

  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ iOS Widgets: Create Home Screen widgets for quick task viewing or interaction.
  • โš ๏ธ Note: Due to iOS widget mechanism limitations, we need to migrate the database and images to a specific directory accessible by the widget. This requires significant changes, so we'll conduct thorough testing to ensure a stable release. We're also exploring widget design and optimization options.

Near-future Updatesโ€‹

  • More Achievement Unlock Conditions: Support additional unlock conditions such as:
    • Weekly/monthly/yearly based conditions
    • Conditions based on reflections
    • Conditions related to unlocking other achievements

Exploratory Features (Experimental)โ€‹

  • ๐ŸŒ Server-side integration experiments (asset library, more flexible membership validation, and other online capabilities).
  • Investigating capabilities related to Apple Health app data integration: such as sleep duration, step count, and experience point growth.

Maintenance Noteโ€‹

ulives is currently maintained by a very small team โ€” in fact, just one developer working on it during spare time outside of their main job. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.

On Development Pace & Quality:

We've observed the remarkable rise of AI-assisted development in recent years, where developers can bring apps to market in remarkably short timelines. Indeed, we've also leveraged AI to accelerate the implementation of feature skeletons and code scaffolding. However, AI is not a silver bullet โ€” determining the right technical approach, validating the implementation, and ensuring everything works as intended still require significant human effort.

What truly takes time is the attention to detail. Perfecting iOS animations, refining interaction smoothness, polishing edge cases โ€” these aspects often require several times more effort than the feature logic itself. We are committed to the long-term maintenance of ulives and our other apps. We have already outlined a multi-year development plan and goals for ulives, and we intend to see it through. This is especially true for an offline-first app like ulives, where we must ensure every version is backward-compatible, preserves data integrity, and introduces new features with minimal disruption. Each release undergoes thorough regression testing and careful validation to protect your data and deliver a reliable experience.

Future Enhancementsโ€‹

Based on user feedback, we've identified several areas for improvement that may be flexibly scheduled for future releases:

User Experience Improvementsโ€‹

  • ๐ŸŽฏ Smart Grouping: Display smart lists/groups like "All Today's Tasks"

Advanced Featuresโ€‹

  • ๐Ÿค– AI Assistance: Explore AI integration for features like suggesting relevant rewards or generating task ideas based on your goals
  • ๐ŸŒ Public Community Features: Long-term vision includes features for sharing task/achievement templates or 'roadmaps' with other users
  • โšก Shortcuts Integration: Enable automation and integration with the Apple Shortcuts app

Development Notesโ€‹

  • Flexible Scheduling: Development priorities can shift based on user feedback and technical challenges
  • Subject to Change: Features listed here might be modified, postponed, or even replaced
  • No Specific Timelines: We cannot commit to exact release dates for future features at this stage

๐Ÿ“ฃ Your Feedback Matters!

Which of these potential features excites you the most? Do you have other great ideas for ulives?

We'd love to hear from you! Please send your feedback and feature requests to fb@ulives.io. Knowing what our users value most helps us prioritize development efforts.

Thank you for being part of the ulives journey! โœจ
